Thailand & Cambodia: Day 1, 2 & 3

LAX to Taipei to Bangkok: Day One

My husband and I went on a romantic and exciting adventure together. We went to Thailand and Cambodia, just the two of us! We had the time of our lives! We chose those countries because we wanted to go somewhere together that we had never been and explore it together. I have never been to Asia so that would be new and exciting for me, I love culture and I knew I would be immersed in a culture that was different than anything I'd ever seen. And it was! We those Thailand and Cambodia because we could basically fit 4 different trips into 1. 1-Big Crazy City, 2-Rural and Jungley, 3-Ancient Temple Exploring, and 4-tropical beach paradise.

It has also been a dream of mine to go to Cambodia and visit the temples and I'll talk more about that during those days. So, Thailand was next to Cambodia and it just turned into our trip. We deeply missed our adorable children but we got to skype a lot and I knew they were thrilled to have so many fun sleepovers with Gigi and Papa! We took at least 2,000 pictures and so I have narrowed it down to this which has been so difficult for me because each picture represents a moment and a memory that means so much to us! But I want to tell the story of our trip through pictures so you feel like you were there too! My favorite trip ever, second to my perfect Honeymoon of course! So, here are our first two days.

This is still in LAX and it took about a day to get there so I guess it is more like the first three days. There are no pictures of me because I was crying off and on the whole time because I was leaving my babies...kind of silly when I look back on it, because we were so busy it just flew by.

We had a layover in Taipei and got a kick out of this sign in the airport. They are not joking around over there!

BANGKOK: Day Two
This is us in a tuk tuk. They are EVERYWHERE over there. A very cheap and somewhat scary form of transportation. By the way, most of the pictures of us together are taken by Mitch...he has really long arms!
This was early in the morning after getting maybe an hour or two of sleep...we had the craziest jet lag for most of the first week we were there! We had the tuk tuk take us to the river to ride the water taxi to see the city as well as a few temples.

On the water taxi...I stole a kiss.

One of the water taxi boats, I thought this one was beautiful.

At the temples, for good luck Mitch hit the gong three times
and he finished with a bow.

There were so many beautiful statues and carvings everywhere we turned.

We were both drawn to the monks, they were everywhere but every time we saw a monk, the whole scene seemed so out of place. It was always really intriguing and beautiful.
The Golden Palace.

I fell quickly for this gorgeous knotted tree on the grounds at one of the temples.

Mitchell and I went to get Thai Messages just about every day we were there. They were sooo inexpensive. They hurt but they felt amazing, they twisted us in all these crazy positions...it was intense but relaxing...however, we had a few other crazy experiences with questionable massage therapists that we are fairly clear that they have never even seen a thai massage before, but it made for a lot of laughs after the fact!

Maybe the Central Park of Bangkok, and incredible relief from the crazy, dirty, hectic part of the city. It was charming.

What? We called ourselves Honeymooners, so this is allowed!

BANGKOK: Day Three
This was the best part of Bangkok by far! We drove about an hour and a half outside of the main part of the city in order to go the the Floating Market.
It was so beautiful and such a unique experience. We took a boat through the canals and past people's homes into the market place where we continued to stay in our boat but buy fruit, spring rolls and souvenirs out of other people boats as you float by. It was an incredibly unique and beautiful day.

There were green, luscious trees hugging both sides of the canal.

The fruit was so delicious and exotic, we could pass up any opportunity to try unconventional and foreign fruit that we had never knew existed! I'd say this was one of the best parts of our trip...we loved experiencing all the fruit.
We came to the same conclusion about our favorite of them all...the sweet and tangy Mangosteen. (It is the purple-brown one pictured above.) So so delicious! How can we get our hands on some around here? We've been trying to figure that out since we have been home.

Love these pictures just because you get a taste of what it was like floating through there.

The Rumbatans were delicious as well. Inside they were almost like a big, sweet, peeled grape.

This Rose Apple looked familiar to us both, though we had never seen it in person before...the Fruit of the Tree? Anyone?

We couldn't believe that we stumbled upon this very "desirable" fruit.

Outside a temple, a female monk made different offerings to give to people as they entered so they might offer something up to Buddha.

They gave us gold leaf to go up a add it on to the Buddha.

It was an exciting first few days in Bangkok! Much more to come...
